Poptun

Poptún is a municipality in the department of Petén, in the Republic of Guatemala. It is the second most populated municipality in the department and has a border with Belize. The climate is tropical, between 25 ° C and 30 ° C most of the year. Since 1989, Military Zone 23 in Poptún has been the base of the elite group «kaibiles», the special operations force of the Guatemalan Army. The municipality has a runway for light aircraft and south of it is the Ixobel Farm, with caves that constitute a tourist attraction.

Spa the pools:

An ideal proposal surrounded by majestic nature, where tourists can enjoy natural pools for a refreshing swim. One of the main characteristics of the place is the turquoise color of the water and the famous garrucha jump. Which is implemented in a variety of eco tourist places in Guatemala. The feeling is always unique when taking height and drop into a pool (favorite of children and adults).



The Cave of Naj Tunich:

The Cave of Naj Tunich is located in Guatemala, in the southeast of Petén, 7 km from the border with Belize, in the region called The Mayan Mountains, in the jurisdiction of the municipality of Poptún.




Finca Ixobel:

Locanted in the Ixobel Farm, three kilometers from the Municipal Headquarters on paved road and one kilometer on foot, it has an ecological hotel, diversity of entertainment, among them hiking trails, horseback riding for several days with a guide, a lagoon and some caves with water to explore.




Traditions of the municipality of Poptún:

One of the main traditions of the municipality of Poptún Petén is the patronal feast that is celebrated between customs and traditions, with religious and popular activities. This municipality is located in the southeast region of the Petén department, in the Republic of Guatemala.





Flora and fauna:

Poptún, due to its biogeographic characteristics, is located at different elevations, which is why it has three types of natural vegetation: broadleaf or broadleaved forest, conifer forest and ecotonal or mixed forest.



Poptun gastronomy:                                                                                                                                                                                                    There are several typical dishes of the region, among which the delicious tamales, corn dough, accompanied by their delicious condiments, poultry, pork and beef, wrapped in banana leaves or mashan, delicious chunks of corn dough, accompanied by a meal and meat wrapped in corn, or and the inevitable tamalitos of elotes and chipilin muffins.     

                                                                                                                                                                       

Typical clothing from Poptun:

 The typical dress of Poptún consists of two pieces: skirt and blouse. The blouse is made of white satin, color that represents the soul of all poptunecos, is straight with a wide gala of borders in red, green and yellow colors that represents the joy of these petenera people. The skirt is very wide of the same material of three times in colors green, white, yellow and red. In the middle time it has a soft color, you can see some hand-painted acorns, which represent the fertility of the soil and identify the beautiful and fresh City of Pines. Two fine combs, trimmed with beautiful ribbons in the same colors as the lack, adorn the hair of this candid petenera woman, her sinuous gait is accompanied by fine capes in rawhide.       It is very beautiful, because it represents our ancestors.

      The biggest party is September 15, Independence Day. Everyone celebrates that day.

      The typical dress is decorated with ribbons of colors that each represent something important of Poptun.
      the activity that I like the most is the one that is celebrated on September 15, independence day.
